Teuda Bara: Comunista demais pra ser chacrete

The work draws a biographical profile of this mythic Brazilian actress, renowned for her trajectory with the Grupo Galpão ensemble. Product of a long research process, which included afternoons at her house rummaging through folders and drawers, this project was a truly collaborative project between the author, the designers, and Teuda herself. More than a formal biography, this sort of almanac or scrapbook aims to translate the actress' irreverence and charisma, offering the reader a visually vibrant experience as entertaining as her life anecdotes. Image collages and bold-type compositions make each spread unique. All 240 pages were printed in black and PANTONE® Warm Red as a not-so-subtle reference to historical communist pamphlets.

One of the challenges of this project was to propose a graphic solution that would distinguish the two voices that take turns as narrators: the author's, introverted and delicate – sometimes even lyrical – offers us context for the first-person narratives of Teuda, extravagant and shameless, which seems to want to overflow the page. Throughout the book, each voice is displayed in a different grid and typeface.

Teuda Bara: Comunista demais para ser chacrete is more than a biography; it is a tribute, a homage to a woman and a generation that had (and still has) the courage to break with paradigms, prejudices, and standards. It is not a straight biography, nor could it be. It summons her own voice, an expert storyteller, to try to capture the essence of this woman's colorful and joyful transgression.”
